The Walking Meditation

Who says you have to stay still to meditate?

Let’s take a walk today, shall we?

Consciously set out on this little walking meditation, taking note of your starting state. Both the emotional and mental landscape, as well as your physical one.

Take a deep inhale through the nose, and full exhale out the mouth.

Let the breath settle into a natural rhythm, in and out the nose.

Begin walking.

No need to fuss over the breath or attempt any sort of control here.

Letting the lungs breath you. Taking up all the space they need in your chest and belly cavity.

As you walk, become aware of the changing surroundings.

Cycle through the senses, to experience this slice of the present moment, more fully.

What can you see.

What can you hear.

Can you smell anything?

Taste anything?

What does the ground feel like? The air on your skin? The fabric of your clothes?

Breathing deeply and fully as you notice.

How quickly are you walking?

Are there other people around you?

What is the light like right now?

Savouring this moment, knowing that it is unique to you and your perception of it… here in this slice in time.

Take stock of your mental state now.

Is there much chatter going on in the background?

Is it calm waters, as you move your body and tune into the present?

Not judging or labeling, just noticing.

I’ll be back with you in three breath’s time so you can assess.

1 2 3

Thank yourself silently, for hearing yourself out. Promise yourself that you will return to yourself again and again to listen. Listen, love and accept the self.

With this softness of spirit, take a pause at the gate of the heart.

What is it’s weather like today?

Neither positive nor negative – just noticing the language your heart is speaking in.

1 2 3

Thanking the self once more, for building a relationship of love within the self.

Like a dedicated lover, hearing your own voice with conscious effort.

We take in the voices of others so much in our days.

But with practice, and the promise to return again & again, we can detect our own voice in the crowd – all the better.

With your heart stocked up with gratitude, your mind at ease knowing you will take it’s input in once again… return to an awareness of the body.

Has anything changed in your surroundings?

What can you see, hear, smell, taste and touch in this current moment?

Taking a nice deep breath in, exhaling out the mouth in a happy sigh.

End or resume your walk from here… fully present after today’s brief meditation.

Thank you so much for practicing with me.

With Love,

Esta

The Practice is in the practice.

A little diary entry.
Or maybe more like… notes to self.
🙃
My personal yoga practice is going strong these days.
It’s a ritual that I hold dear to my heart.
But that doesn’t mean I always want to do it.
Heck no.

But it’s in the moments that I don’t want to practice… that I remind myself that THIS is the practice.
This mental exercise of choosing to be present.
Un-distracted.
In the moment.
🧘🏻‍♀️
Choosing to complete the full flow.
Sticking it out when it’s the pose I didn’t feel like doing.
Listening to the body in a way that honours and respects it.

Building a relationship with myself nourishes me, and helps me show up as my best self for my people.
It’s a wee bit deeper than putting my arms up above my head and doing some forward folds… is what I am trying to relay.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way!

What surprises you about the whole practice of yoga?

Let me know in the comments!

Happy practicing, dear friends. ✌

With Love,
Esta

Notice, and release… a yogic practice that might be useful off the yoga mat too! We paused for an autumn admiration in this week’s mini-meditation. 🍂

Last in the newsletter is a little fun fact about options I offer!

Take a pause with me for this autumn scene?

We take a few deep and intentional breaths together and then practice a key yogic idea: Notice & Release.

MOVE with Love

Jathara Parivartanasana | Revolved Seated Twist

Give your spine a little twist in today’s yoga pose of the day. 💫

Pick a side to twist to first, and just know you’ll shuffle your hips just slightly over to the opposite side before you begin.

There’s a couple options to get into the pose, tucking the knees into the chest or crossing one ankle over the other knee. Twist at the belly button and let the hips both reach for the mat. Play around and find the stretch that feels right for you. The shoulders stick to the mat, with the shoulder blades tucked in and down to the spine. Relax and melt into the pose, and don’t forget the other side!
